The relationships he forms with the people who approach him manifest something entirely unique and unrepeatable. The signs he works, especially in the face of sinners, the poor, the marginalized, the sick, and the suffering, are all meant to teach mercy. Everything in him speaks of mercy. Nothing in him is devoid of compassion. ~Pope Francis
This reminds me of the story of Blind Bartimaeus. Here is a man that has been blind all his life and is begging for his very existence. He hears about this “Jesus” who is able to heal and do extra ordinary things. He merely heard about this Jesus. Next thing you know he hears Jesus actually coming not just near him, but is passing by him. He knows the miracle that is needed in his life and he realizes this might be his only chance at that miracle. He screams out, “Son of David, have mercy upon me!” Jesus, with empathy, hears Bartimaeus Cry and asks him what he wants. “To see”, says the blind man.
Jesus took the time that no one else would, to build a relationship with this man, even if just for a few tender moments of this man’s life. He was healed because of his Faith in God and the relationship formed. Jesus took the time to establish relationships with the poor and downtrodden; those who were looked upon as lower than life. Jesus did not care about the law or tradition, He cared about people and their eternal souls.
Everything of Jesus speaks to the compassionate, loving and merciful nature of the Father. Remember, Jesus is the Face of the Father’s Love and Mercy. Thus we are called; mandated to emulate that same unconditional mercy. Establishing relationships and communications with others, but especially with God Himself. Our relationship with God comes from ‘knowing’ Him intimately as a man knows his wife, intimately.
